Institutional Purpose

Creating a common understanding of an institution's purpose may seem simple; however, it is one of the biggest challenges for institutional leadership. An institution's underlying purpose may evolve over the years as leaders transition and new stakeholders emerge within an ecosystem. Without attention, an institution's purpose becomes fragmented. We help institutions (re)acquaint themselves with their purpose through:

  • A careful examination of the existing institutional purpose, and how it aligns with the ecosystem in which the institution operates today.

  • Collecting insights from all stakeholders to understand their perception of the institution's purpose, as well as an assessment of how the institution's culture contributes to or distracts from its purpose.

  • Working with all stakeholders to articulate the institution's purpose and develop a strategic vision.

  • A carefully coordinated strategy for aligning the institution's newfound purpose to its community.

Programmatic Innovation

For many institutions, what worked well in the past may not work well in an era of increasing volatility, uncertainty, change, and ambiguity. Institutions must adapt and reinvent themselves on a consistent basis to survive and thrive. Our consulting services helps to identify and navigate any necessary change by:

  • Collaborating with your team to clarify your organizational purpose and vision with respect to your culture and to determine how you will achieve that vision.

  • Mapping out your internal and external ecosystems and conducting a full assessment of your programs to determine their full potential.

  • Designing and executing launch strategies for new programs and services.

  • Sharing best practices with leaders so they can obtain the skills and strategies they need to create a culture of institutional entrepreneurship and innovation.

Institutional Leadership

Institutional leadership requires the ability to understand where a leader's department, program, or institution stands in relationship to an entire system. This requires addressing the dynamic tension that exists between vision and tradition. We offer executive coaching and customized programs around the following:

  • Awareness-building around a leader's natural strengths and opportunities for growth.

  • Stakeholder mapping within the ecosystem to develop an engagement strategy.

  • Holistic examination of a leader's program or department to find opportunities for innovation.

  • Cultivating key competencies around influence, communication, negotiation, strategic thinking, institutional entrepreneurship, and diplomatically managing competing interests.

Cultural Transformation

An organization’s strength comes from the culture it creates. We work with you to gain a better understanding of your organization’s existing norms and values. This allows us to spot opportunities and envision what’s possible, so we can help you create an organizational culture that’s truly exceptional. This work typically involves the following:

  • A survey of your culturally diverse teams to gain an appreciation of their values, norms, and shared agreements, so we can build awareness and increase engagement.

  • Qualitative assessments to illuminate any gaps between your desired culture and your existing day-to-day norms and actions.

  • Cultural identity coaching to help your team understand the value and importance of their unique contributions to your mission.

  • The development of a cultural transformation action plan. A step-by-step roadmap for how you will invest in and cultivate your desired organizational culture.
